Welcome to the

Autism Bedfordshire website

Autism Bedfordshire is a small independent charity providing information, advice, emotional and practical support for children/young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (A.S.D.) and their parents/carers in Bedfordshire and Luton.

The society was formed by a group of parents in 1991.  They met to exchange information and provide support to each other.  The group developed, registered as a Charity and is now based in Bedford employing 9 office staff and over 150 keyworkers and volunteers to provide our services to over 300 members.  The Charity is governed by a Board of Trustees who come from a diverse range of backgrounds and many of whom are parents of children with A.S.D.  We also have an advisory Trustee who is on the autistic spectrum.

Autism Bedfordshire was incorporated and registered as a company on 31st March 2004, at Companies House, Crown Way, Cardiff, CF14 3UZ.  Registration no.4632497, registered office, St Marks Church Community Centre, Calder Rise, Bedford, MK41 7UY.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way an individual thinks, communicates and relates to the world around them.  People with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction and to them the world appears a confusing mass of events, people, places, sounds and sights.  Everyday situations can cause them extreme anxiety which often results in unusual or challenging behaviour.
